This past year, besides a very stimulating collaboration with some local Algerian (Berber) musicians, an experience that made me curious to learn more about the music from this region, I also began accompanying Cantor David Lasry at weddings in Montreal’s growing Sephardic community. Inspired by the beauty of his voice and of the Moroccan Jewish liturgical repertoire, I wanted to include a sample on my album. The words of these two songs (in Hebrew) describe the devotion of the Moroccan Jews to the study of Torah.
